Continuing
professional development for ARCHITECTS
MISSION
The
career of an architect faces fast revolutions and changes within the context of
the professional world. In order to remain current with these changes, the architect
is required to complete educational and developmental training throughout his
or her career. Once armed with this wealth of knowledge, he or she can use it
as a force of change, hope and progress.
The
CPD program is engaged in accomplishing this by providing quality courses in
vast array of fields connected with architectural practice. Additionally, the
CPD program provides architects with a greater and more thorough database of
new information within the architectural and related fields of business.
The
CPD program incorporates this cutting edge information with its cumulative
knowledge and past experience to maintain a balance that honors the
originality, Identity and heritage of Architecture.
Participant countries and
members
Conscious of the specific need of this genre
of training, the professional architectural orders and associations of Tunisia,
Algeria, Egypt and Libya (North Africa), coordinated to establish continuing
professional development system (CPD) for their members. The programs
development draws upon the strategic planning of pre-existent development
programs of countries such as the US, Canada, England and France. Negotiations are
currently under way between individual Architectural organizations for participation
in this initiative.
An
agreement has been signed between the architectural organizations in these
North African countries in order to create the CoArc (coalition for North
Africa Architects Organizations). With this significant agreement work on the
promotion and the development of the CPD program within the region can begin.
All
Organizations participating in CoArc have the automatic enrollment of their
individual organization participants into the regional CPD program. These
members benefit from all of the CPD services including individual use of the
CPD website. This allows for:
-Communication with their respective
organizations and receipt of regular mailings and bulletins.
-Access to an E-library and a construction
related data base.
-Receipt of announcements and advertisements
about proposed courses and trainings.
-Access to various CPD and country based
organization related activities, registrations, certifications, etc…
Architects
from other countries as well as other construction specialists can also become
a member of the CPD program as individual users.
CPD Programming
The
CPD training program proposes a series of modules not only offered by
Architects but also by other professionals and specialists such us urban
planners, engineers, computer specialists, lawyers, photographers, construction
material suppliers, government agencies, educators, etc…
These
modules will be diffused through the CPD website and presented within
architecture schools, universities, architects councils, orders and other
organizations and institutions.
Modules
are supplied via various methods; Conferances, symposiums, trainings, classes,
video-conferances, etc…E-learning and E-conferencing capabilities as well as a
combination of traditional and virtual possibilities shall become available in
the immediate future.
Intemships
and lecture series in specific fields will be scheduled for members and
educators.
The
program will also attempt to encourage the practical use of learned data
through competitions and prizes.
Collaborative
programming with other Architectural/construction related professional
organizations is planned as well.
The
acquisition of these modules will provide better knowledge of the construction
market, will increase specialialization within the architectural field, will
promote new opportunities within the private sector and will simultaneously
advance the quality of professional services in the architectural speciality.
CPD Structure and Sections
The
program will be managed from its permanent base in Tunisia with three principal
regional focal points .Each point based on a specific country, will focus on
establishing a specific plan of one or more specialties for all members
countries as well providing continual development for basic professional
practice principals within their individual country. As the CPD program
continues to develop, additional focal points may be added on. For the moment,
the following three active focal points are operational:
-Natural
energy usage/Energy efficiency in the buildings (Tunisia)
This
program implements the use of natural energy systems within building
programming, design and specifications. Through the study of these tree points within
the module, the Architect will enrich his or her knowledge of energy economy,
orientations, site positioning and locations, environment, interior space
planning and energy efficient material and products.
-Environment
/ sustainable development (Algeria)
This
program addresses particular ecological architecture and urban design within
specific and sensitive ecosystems such as the Sahara, the coast lines, etc…It
encourage the development and the promotion of high environmental quality
buildings and urban developments within susceptible regions in order to help
support sustainable development.
-Cultural
heritage (Egypt)
This
program follows the basic fundamentals of UNESCO cultural heritage programs and
attempts to encourage the adoption of the <roots> of architecture within
existing region and its implementation in the conservation, restoration and
development of new structures.
Professional
practice:
Each
country base, independently of its specific focal point its responsible for the
continuing development of its basic professional practice needs. It should
promote education for architectural codes, regulatios, laws, as well as
presentation, specifications, life fire safety, health welfare and business
management.
